Improvement Priorities

Academy Improvement Priorities for the Academic Year 2013 -2014

Area for Improvement 1 – ACHIEVEMENT Attainment, progress and the quality of learning, for individuals, different groups, particularly SEND pupils

1. All children and in particular the majority of SEN and Pupil Premium children to make at least expected progress reading, writing and maths. 75% of Y1 pupils pass screening (Phonics).

2. KS1 children to make an average class APS of at least 7 and in KS2 an average class APS of at least 4 ensuring good progress.

3. To narrow the gap between Non-FSM and Pupil Premium children in reading, writing and maths.

4. To increase the number of children who are at Age Related Expectations (2b) by the end of KS1.

5. To purchase a well-structured Phonics Scheme.

6. To implement a new handwriting approach that ensures consistency and progression throughout school.

Area for Improvement 2 - QUALITY OF TEACHING Expectations, engagement, motivation, challenge, independence, reading and literacy skills, assessment and next steps in learning

7. All teachers to share good teaching practice.

8. Learning environments consistently enhance learning.

9. All teachers to effectively match the learning to the needs of all learners.

SECTION 3: PUPILS’ BEHAVIOUR AND SAFETY Including conduct in lessons and around the school, attendance and punctuality, attitudes to others, how well protected from bullying, views of pupils, parents and carers

10. Ensure a consistent approach to managing behaviour is embedded across the academy.

11. Develop creative use of space for play activities at lunchtime.

12. To have increased pupil attendance to 95%, by July 2014.

SECTION 4: EFFECTIVENESS OF LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT How leaders and managers demonstrate ambition for pupils in their achievement, improve teaching and learning, support/develop staff, and capacity for improvement. Also accuracy of SSE, appropriateness of curriculum, governance, safeguarding, equality of opportunity, parental engagement and partnerships

13. Develop a staffing structure to build capacity at all levels across the academy.

14. Senior leaders contribute significantly to rapid improvement across the academy.

15. Develop a clear, shared vision for the academy.

16. Raise aspirations of the learning community.
